Beware of Rumpelstiltskin
On Friday night I went to see a movie with my daughter. Beth is 7 turning 8 and is already stealing her dad’s heart. We had a great adventure, we went on the motorbike. Played arcade games, saw the movie and ordered the biggest milkshake afterwards. It was a fantastic time and I realised again that little girls really need their dads to be involved in their lives. The movie we saw was Shrek Forever, it definitely had its moments. The main premise of the story is that Shrek is yearning for his bachelor days and has forgotten how blessed he really is, so he gets conned into trading it all away for a few hours of “freedom” . As I was watching the movie I was reminder of so many Christians who seem willing to do the same. Sin always costs something. We so often want to take a break from doing the right thing, thinking that we can get away from it all and it won’t hurt us. So many try, thinking that not even God can see what they are up to. Unfortunately sin doesn’t come for free and before we realise it, the price exacted is higher than we were willing to pay. Living a holy life can sometimes seem so difficult and we often get conned into thinking that there is no reward. I wish like Shrek we could see just how much God blesses us when we live for Him and just how much we have gained through choosing the high road. Many who are broken and smashed look at our lives and are envious. The good news of Jesus is that it is not just for a select few but in fact God loves us all and wants to move in all our lives. We do need to make a choice, we need to choose God. We need to seek His righteousness. As we do our best to do this, the reward of peace, real love, real joy and the rest of the fruit of the Spirit become ours. So let’s not realise to late and let’s not sign our lives away to the enemy. We are blessed and have a lot to be grateful for. Now I just need to take my son out for a boys night out, otherwise I’m going to be in BIG trouble.
